Demonification Interview (2012)

BFM:Sawasdee Krup! How're you Fai? Let's greet our readers.
Fai: Sawasdee Krup Warbrother Zoham. At the moment I'm still alive and it's great to be alive. Reading more zines, listening to Metal music and creating more evil hellhymns for the readers here and for the masses.

BFM:I believe that a lot of readers still do not know your band. Can you introduce yourself, your band, tlk about your releases, your band's members?
Fai: Demonification was created by me (vocals and guitars) and J.Rage Maniax (drums) back in 1997. At that time we already choose Thrash Metal as our music because we were bombarded with evil bands such as Destruction, Sodom, Kreator, Sadus, Megadeth, Tankard and many many more. There were of course some line up changes in Demonification, the most notable ones is we have had Dagoth (ex Abhorer / ex Impiety) on drums and Demonomancer (ex Impiety) on bass at one point of evil time. Back in 1999 we released a demotape entitled, "A Thousand Sadness". In 2000, we released an EP entitled, "For The People". In 2001, we released an EP tape, "Rehearsal Tape". In 2002, Ravage Records (Singapore) released a MCD entitled, "The Holocaust Continues". In 2004 we released an album entitled, "Hell Metal". After the end of our 1st album, I decided to end Demonification due to financial and musical directions problems within the band. Soon after, I joined Ironfist as a lead guitarist and went on tour and recorded a 7", "Worshippers of The Black Witch", a MCD "Sexcalibur" and  their 1st album entitled, "Weapons Of Mass Sextruction". After years of playing in Ironfist, the passion to play Thrash Metal music is boiling in my heart and my soul, but I couldn't do that in Ironfist because Ironfist is more Black / Heavy Metal music so I decided to quit Ironfist and reform back my band which is Demonification. Upon reformed, I call upon J.Rage Maniax, the original drummer, and Thoth Warsaw as the bass player.

BFM: What is the reason of quitting Ironfist? Do you still keep in contact with Rape?
Fai: The reason I quit Ironfist is not because of friendship or brotherhood problems. It is because of music. I wanted to play Thrash Metal but he wants to keep it Black / Heavy Metal which is good for Ironfist but it's not good for me. Overtime and again, I'll get bored playing the riffs in Ironfist. It's too simple and I need more aggression. Currently I'm not in contact with Rape, I tried to call him or message him, he did not reply. I don't know why and I don't give a fuck anymore.

BFM:Shyaithan of Impiety once said that the scene in Singapore is fucked up, is it true?
Fai: Let me say that the Goatfather, is one of the most respected individual in every Metal scene because he worked hard and he die hard for Impiety. I've been a fan of Impiety for 10 years now and I'll not stop listening to their music. Every scene in this world no matter what country we step on have its bad days and good days. I cannot say that Singapore Metal scene is fucked up or too fucking great. But all I can say is this, Singapore Metal scene is growing fast. I've seen new kids, maybe a few posers or scumbags around but to me it's alright as long as they don't do shit to my band.

BFM:I know that you know Redza of Hereafter (thrasher from Malaysia) and you also go there once in a while, what is the difference between living in Singapore and Malaysia? which place is better?
Fai: Redza of Hereafter is not only my best friend but he is also my eternal warbrother. I've visited him a lot of times within a year because Redza is a reliable guy and someone you can trust your money with. He have helped Demonification so much and his band, Hereafter is one killer band which have become one of my inspiration to write killer riffs. There is a big difference living in Singapore and living in Malaysia. Singapore as you know it has very tight laws. You cannot bribe the police and we have to serve our country. Malaysia is a hell of a good country because the cigarettes are cheaper, the country is big and there are so many histories in Malaysia. But of course the better place will be Singapore because my family is here, my girlfriend is here and my band is here. If I don't have these three then I'll pick Malaysia as the better place anytime.

BFM:The song titled 'Airmata Hawa' in your new release is more into stoner, and the language i believe is not english, what is the reason behind it?
Fai: Airmata Hawa is in Malay language. And yes it is very much influenced by Judas Priest, "Dreamer" in the album, "Sad Wings Of Destiny". The reason I wrote it in Malay is I want the Muslim Community in Malaysia that banned Metal there to realize we, Demonification showed them musically that even the first man on earth have sins and unperfect. When I first heard the news about Malaysia banned Metal back then, it really makes me angry and I really feel for my Malaysian friends. I knew I had to make a stoner song about this situation but I needed to open up a similar subject. And what better way is to associate Adam (the first man on earth) to this situations yet to fit the song in Espionage Of His Messengers.

BFM:What is the reason that make you want to play music and choose to play metal? Did your family have influences in this?
Fai: When I was in my teenage life, my father who is a Jazz musician told me to fuse my anger in music, thus he taught me the guitar. I was an angry kid back then. Metal music is aggresive, fast and evil. My first vinyls back then was Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny and Black Sabbath - Sabotage. These 2 records makes me crazy till I want to play like them. My family is supportive of my musical directions and my music lifestyle. As long as we Metal musicians respected our families, they will let us what we want to play.

BFM:Does Demonification hav any plan to touring to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Phillipines?
Fai: Right now, we have received offers in Asia. I will not reveal much here because the organizers and I have not comfirm the dates yet. But of course, Demonification will want to play in any countries we can no matter Asia, Europe, USA. Demonification is a global band. That is my vision for this band.

BFM:Which are the new bands from Singapore that you would like to introduce to our readers?
Fai: Singapore have killer bands and those killer bands are (old and new) - Infernal Execrator, Dyeth, Harvester, Cardiac Necropsy, Bloodstone, Xanadoo and a lots more. You'll have to really dig in deeper in our soil to find more underground bands here.

BFM:Does the band has any decision of reissue the first album titled "Hell Metal"?
Fai: I was the one who decided to reissue back Hell Metal because I wanted the Metal Maniax in the world to know that back in 2004, this is the aggression we played and the aggression is still the same as before. Anyway Hell Metal is still in demand in European countries such as Germany. Back then I couldn't send all for distributions there. But now I can because of this reissue. The good thing about this reissue is that I've included the songs from The Holocaust Continues as well so it is one hell package.

BFM:How do you defy Demonification's music?
Fai: Demonification music will always be Thrash Metal. The aggresion and the evil along with it.

BFM:Can you give us your top 5 albums that you have been listening since you were young?
Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny
Black Sabbath - Sabotage
Destruction - Sentence Of Death
Sodom - Agent Orange
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill

BFM:After this, I give you as much as space as possible for you to promote yourband, scold anyone, or anything. Thank you Fai for your precious time.
